Schaumburg Summer Camp Descriptions

Mobile App Development – AI & Games App

Students create fully functional apps and games for Android smartphones and tablets with App Inventor’s intuitive visual programming environment. They gain insight into the app design process and develop confidence and a desire to continue learning as a young app creator. It’s recommended but not required for students to bring their own Android phone or tablet.

Game App Development – Arcade & Puzzle Game

What’s the better way of learning computers and coding than to do it through making games? Students learn to develop interactive video games for mobile devices with drag-and-drop graphical user interface while comprehending programming concepts such as event handling, decision making and control structures.

Minecraft – Build your Own World

Let your child unleash their creativity in their own personalized version of Minecraft. This camp offers opportunities for designing adventure maps, developing a narrative, constructing 3D structures with WorldEdit, and enhancing the game through command blocks.

Drone Coding

This programmable drone camp provides a thrilling launch into coding and aerodynamics for students. They program personalized flight patterns to complete a variety of missions. Younger students learn with a block-based visual language while experienced students write code using Python.

3D Game Design in Unity with VR

Unleash the potential of virtual reality (VR) through integration of Oculus Rift in the creation of 3D games with Unity and C# programming. Campers bring their imaginative worlds to life with landscapes and objects in Unity, and use C# codes to control the scenes. They get to immerse themselves in their own virtual reality game world.

Build & Code 3D Maze Game

Aspiring game designers can bring their ideas to life with Microsoft Kodu Game Lab. They develop a storyline, create characters, build a world with obstacles, health, and score points, and use programming sequences and logic to write code for game actions.

Arduino Autonomous Car

Discover the technology behind self-driving vehicles by constructing and programming an autonomous Arduino robot. Campers investigate how autonomous or driver-assist cars maintain their lane, automatically brake, navigate around obstacles, and carry out functions like adaptive cruise control.

Cartoon Animation

Campers learn to develop animation videos with the use of simple drawing tools. This gives them an opportunity to unleash their artistic capabilities and skills, letting their imaginative juices flow. They can also upload it to Youtube to share with friends, families and the world!

3D Game Design with Roblox Studio

Perfect camp for Roblox enthusiasts to get their creativity flowing with Roblox Studio. Budding game developers will learn to design, create, code and, publish their own 3D games. Campers entering grades 4 and above use text-based Lua coding to add features to their game while learning events and functions.

Activities will be customized based on individuals’ skill level. Campers with no Roblox experience are welcome as well.

3D Modeling and Printing

In this camp, students learn 3D computer-aided design using TinkerCAD and grasp the process of designing and creating three-dimensional objects on a modeling software. They complete challenges and print their designs using 3D printers. This STEAM activity enhances spatial awareness and strengthens their understanding of geometry and architecture.

Minecraft Architecture

Foster your child’s creativity in a Minecraft-designed world. Minecraft provides a valuable introduction to architecture. By utilizing Minecraft as a CAD tool, future architects can gain an understanding of various architectural styles ranging from medieval to contemporary. They can draft floor plans and craft unique interiors using various materials, stones, and shapes to bring their vision to life.

Electrical Engineering

Students delve into the fundamentals of electricity by constructing electrical circuits and incorporating electricity with magnets to create functional devices. With this understanding, they will create engaging projects and games that involve electricity. Senior students will design and construct engaging circuits utilizing LEDs, resistors, capacitors, transistors, and Light Dependent Resistors in the creation of electronic gadgets.

Theme Park Engineering

Young engineers thrill in the excitement of an amusement park as they build working models of rides such as Carousels, Ferris Wheels, Water Slides, and other attractions, all while learning about engineering principles, circuitry, mechanics, and the design cycle.

Aerospace Engineering

Students will construct various flying objects while studying the principles of flight, air pressure, propulsion, drag, and thrust. What causes an aircraft to defy gravity and take off? How do thrust and air drag impact its flight? These are some of the intriguing questions students will be challenged to answer and develop solutions for as they explore and experiment with different areas of aerospace technology.

Mechanical Engineering

Learn how mechanical engineering principles are applied to create the wonderful machines that make up our world. Students will be creating machines and mechanisms as they take an adventure through the world of mechanical engineering. Kids love to question how machines work and figure out what makes them go.

Marine Engineering

If your child is fascinated by marine vessels, then we’ll help feed that passion by exploring the design behind those great floating machines.  Students will learn not only how these machines are crafted but also fundamental Marine Engineering topics, like buoyancy, propulsion, and different ways to power watercrafts.

Automobile Engineering

This camp is tailored for young car enthusiasts who want to know more about the inner workings of vehicles. Over the course of the week, participants will construct various operational car models that include motors and gears. They will also delve into the mechanics of various systems, including brakes, steering, and bumpers, through hands-on building.

Heavy Equipment Engineering

Aspiring engineers will delve into fundamental principles and components that operate some of the largest machinery in the world. They will construct a functioning model of heavy-duty machines, such as those that use hydraulics and pulleys to lift, press, and pull massive loads. At the conclusion of the camp, participants will have a more comprehensive understanding of how these machines generate the necessary forces and pressures to accomplish tasks.

Sustainable Energy Engineering

Our Sustainable Energy week nurtures the next generation of environmentally conscious engineers by fostering their green energy tendencies. Through engaging activities, campers will learn about the various forms of renewable energy and how they can contribute to maintaining a healthy and beautiful Earth. Inspired by this knowledge, the campers will then design and build alternative energy machines using energy from sources such as water, wind, and the sun.

Robotics Engineering

Young roboticists engage into the mechanics of robotics by constructing moving robots of their own. They will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various components that bring these robots to life, including circuits, mechanisms, kinematics, and vibrations.
